HP Mini 2140

This affordable, business-class netbook offers long battery life, durability, and a first-rate keyboard.

While HP’s recently released Mini 1000 is designed for consumers, its new HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC caters to the mobile professional. An update and replacement to HP’s original 2133 Mini-Note, the 2140 sports the same durable chassis and well-designed keyboard as its predecessor but adds a larger 10-inch screen and an Intel Atom processor that pays off in 7-plus hours of battery life (with a six-cell battery). Add in fast-charge technology and hard drive protection, and our top netbook pick for road warriors.

NEW!!! Panasonic Toughbook F8

NEW!!! The business-rugged Toughbook F8 delivers more power, outstanding battery life, a 14.1-inch screen, and an onboard optical drive in a 3.7-pound package. But it will cost you.

We’ve always been fans of Panasonic’s Toughbook line, especially its durable ultraportables. The all-new Toughbook F8 brings Intel’s Centrino 2 platform to a machine that is impressively light given its 14.1-inch widescreen and integrated optical drive. However, it’s hard to overlook the steep $2,499 starting price ($2,899 as configured), especially since the F8’s keyboard is less than stellar and the system lacks such features as a built-in webcam and fingerprint reader. Given its durability and long battery life, though, the F8 is worth the premium for those who spend a lot of time out of the office.

NEW!!! Samsung X360-34P

NEW!!! This impressively thin, luxury ultraportable offers good battery life and performance along with a head-turning design.

It may be a little late to the razor-thin notebook contest, but the Samsung X360-34P has a lot more to offer than just a low profile. This 13-inch ultraportable is not only lighter than both the Apple MacBook Air and Lenovo ThinkPad X301, it features much better battery life. Of course, the X360 shares another trait with the MacBook Air and X301: but with its comfortable keyboard, easy-access ports, and blazing solid state drive, the X360 is one of the best notebooks in its class.

LATEST!!! First Hands on With The HTC Touch PRO2

NEW!!! So this thing's definitely got some heft to it -- and honestly, especially for a business-centric device in this class, we don't think that's a bad thing. As with just about everything HTC churns out, the Touch Pro2 is exquisitely manufactured, feels rock-solid, and the WVGA is absolutely awesome.

We noticed that the gestures and animations are totally smooth and responsive, proving that WinMo is perfectly capable of handling this kind of UI dazzle. The Straight Talk functionality for seamlessly moving between different types of communication will be appreciated by anyone who spends half their business day on the phone and seems to work (and look) positively lovely -- and as for that speakerphone? We can totally picture ourselves slamming this thing upside down during a meeting in a fit of style rage with a satisfying, weighty "thud" and instantly bringing the whole room into the conversation.

NEW!!! Dell teases with 17-inch quad-core laptop sporting 16GB of memory

NEW & Latest!!! This is going to be huge. Unfortunately, we're talking size not marketplace impact when Dell's 17-inch Precision "mobile workstation" rolls out this fall. This portable desktop replacement promises up to 1TB of storage configured in a dual-drive RAID configuration, quad-core processor, and 16GB of graphics memory (1GB for graphics) with enough oomph to power a pair of external 30-inch displays. It also includes a number of unidentified media slots and an integrated jog shuttle controller -- a pretty good hint at the mobile media types this laptop is targeting. Watch it all go down in the video after the break.
